Should I SLI??

garren078

I have a gtx 1070, and I was wondering if I should get another 1070 and SLI instead of getting a 1080 or 1080ti?

No.

Sell it and buy a better single GPU.

No, Most games don't support SLI or aren't optimized for it.

Get the 1080Ti if you have a 4k monitor get a 1080 if you have a 1440p

Sell the 1070 and get a 1080 (ti). A single 1080ti is very similar in performance if not better than sli 1070s and you won't have to deal with poor sli optimization. Always get the best sinlge GPU you can afford unless you're a baller that is of course ;) but then do sli 1080 tis or something....

Disagree, 1080 doesn't cut it for 1440p if you want to max games.

1080Ti > SLI 1070

SLI 1070 > 1080

SLI 1080 > 1080Ti

If you can get a 1080Ti, that would be a better choice over SLI 1070. If the 1080Ti wasn't a consideration, SLI 1070 would be better than a 1080 in games that support SLI.

I played games at 1080p that a 1070 couldn't handle maxed. I'm playing games on my 1080Ti @ 1440p that still can't be maxed.

By maxed, I don't mean clicking very high details. I mean max texture filtering, max AA, max sampling, max texture scale etc

you might be setting resolution scale to 200% this means you render twice the amount of pixels your monitor has, effectively cutting fps in half. i have manually cracked the settings in all the games to max except that one because its pointless to render more pixels than my monitor has.

but dont take my word for it. here is a whole array of benchmarks by techgage testing various games at 1440p and 4k: https://techgage.com/article/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-review-a-look-at-1440p-4k-ultra-wide-gaming/4/

A lot of games mislabel their render scale. It's not uncommon for 200% to actually mean 4x the display resolution.

That would have an even worse effect on fps, thanks for mentioning.

You're welcome. And yeah, it's confusing as to why some games mislabel it. Battlefield is one of those games where 200% at 1080p is actually rendering at 4k.

I'd sli. Gonna lose out on something regardless. Unless you don't mind going without a card and getting another run. Gonna get better performance regardless.

And if we are talking about bf1 a single 1080 on 1440 gets 110 average frames on ultra and 100% scaling with current patches/drivers.
