PSU Coffee Lake Compatibility

Go to solution Solved by Droidbot,

Just a case of poor updating and selling to noobs.

Within reasonable wattage, a brand new Corsair PSU that works with the 6th gen will also work with 8th gen.

I've been looking at Corsair's website, and I've looked at a lot of their power supplies. The problem is, their power supplies, every single one, says compatible with 6th Gen intel processors. Is this just a case of poor updating of their website or would it not be compatible with a coffee lake chip that is within the supported wattage?

It's still technically called, by Intel's definition, "Haswell compatibility" even though we're on Coffee Lake, as the reasoning behind needing a certification for it hasn't changed.

When Haswell was introduced it brought along super deep sleep states that demand a super low amount of power from the minor rails on your PSU. Many PSUs would simply shut off if not "Haswell compatible" when you instruct the PC to go to Sleep because the minor rails couldn't deal with the bizarre low load on the rails. If you want an easy demonstration of how little power Haswell and beyond use when asleep, simply plug a Haswell or newer system into the front panel I/O on an older case like my old Nanoxia DS4 and see what happens to the sleep LED when you suspend the system. Normally, with an AM3 system or LGA 1156 system, say, the LED would simply repeatedly flash until you woke the thing up. With Haswell the light isn't fed any power, thus just turns off, even though your PC is still asleep.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
