need help with GPU overclocking in Linux Ubuntu

Hi all,

I've been searching online for an easy way to overclock my gtx 1070 in my ubuntu 16.04 OS. I haven't found anything that works or maybe I just haven't been able to implement it correctly. Does anyone know of a guide that makes it simple for a noob?

probably not gonna be helpful but there's this https://askubuntu.com/questions/859218/nvidia-1070-overclocking-help-needed  and there's this, looks like the same instructions, but clearer and more direct https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1712831.0

$ nvidia-settings -a "GPUGraphicsClockOffset[3]=100" \
	-a "GPUMemoryTransferRateOffset[3]=500" \
	-a "GPUFanControlState=1"
	-a "GPUTargetFanSpeed=60"

this sort of works, but how do i increase the memory frequency? I don't need to OC the gpu cores.

I tried that and put in 800, but I'm not seeing any change in the hashrate.

Give me a moment.  Lucky enough I run an 24/7 overclocked GTX960 on a debian branch Linux.

There is a GUI in Ubuntu.

First off, you installed the Nvidia drivers?

If drivers are installed, launch x server.  This is driver GUI interface.

Should look something like this:

nvidia_settings_performance_level_gpu_te

At first you can't OC from the GUI.

You will need to run coolbits 12 command and restart for overclock settings to unlock.

Run this to to set cool-bits to 12.  Restart OS.

sudo nvidia-xconfig --cool-bits=12

After reboot, do this command.

sudo nvidia-settings

X Server should now allow overclocking.  If 12 don't work for cool-bits, try 28 in place of 12.

Yes, I did this and when I check the xorg.conf file this is what is shown, but I still don't have any OC features showing up.

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BoardName "GeForce GTX 1070"
    Option "Coolbits" "12"
EndSection

Sometimes Ubuntu likes to be a pain about taking the settings.  I think one time I had to do it like twice or so for the OS to finally get the hint.

This is what X Server looks like when OC is unlocked:
