Planning first build

Hey, ive got a pretty bad laptop rn (an amd a8 apu) and am planning to build a pc. Heres my list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Teo_1221/saved/KfpGf7 (for the graphics card i wil purchase whatever rx 480 or 580 that is the cheapest when im ready to buy, ive also already bought the power supply and hard drive) I'm trying to get about 60+fps at 1080p. how do you think my build is? i know the power supply is low and should be able to run an rx480, but can it run an rx 580? if so, how much overclocking can i get on my graphics card and processor?

its not bad and the psu dont worry you have more than enough room for overclocking and not to mention a good psu can do 20-25% more than what its ratted so your fine with everything else

The PSU is fine

 

Mobo isnt. MSI AM4 mobo got inefficient VRMs for future CPU upgrades and RAM support is terrible.

 

Speaking of RAM, try get high frequency ones if budget allows.

Just because it can doesnt mean you should. Besides, that's for the high end PSUs. Those like the CX450M cannot.

what would you suggest for a motherboard?

The board isn't that bad, though unfortunately MSI really didn't make the greatest choices AM4-wise, what with recycling VRM designs across boards and all. I use a Tomahawk with an overclocked Ryzen 5 1600X, and it has been reliable for the time that I have run it.

ive asked around quite a bit and it seems people either really diislike or love the b350 tomahawk lol

The thing with MSI is that they simply slack off when it comes to AMD CPU motherboards. 970 chipset mobos have VRMs occasionally set fire to itself (990 chipset ones are a bit better in this regard). In AM4's case they used cheap VRMs that produce a lot of heat when operation and heat reduces efficiency even further. To top it all off, they used fewer numbers of them in lower-end B350s like the B350M Gaming Pro as if they forgot B350 supports overclocking. Tomahawk is a bit better, but I wouldnt support a company which cuts prices by cutting down quality.

@dave_k is the resident Ryzen VRM senpai and he says the tomahawk are terrible last time i checked

ok good to note, i'll get the asus prime b350 plus instead, but other than that with an rx 580 i could still be able to overclock a little bit?

also what would you suggest for a 2x4gb ddr4 ram kit that is modestly priced, with ram prices going up?

thanks but this links me to a kit that is temporarilly out of stock, i'll add it to my list though and wait until its back

It would be good if you can spend more on a 550w power supply, but even with a 450w one you can still overclock
