Looking for a computer to replace a really old imac for a college photography club, it should run programs like photoshop and illustrator well, but also be as cheap as possible. If we decide to go the pc route, which components should I focus on the most for this kind of computer, and where can I cut corners more? I can probably get a free copy of windows so that shouldn't be an issue.

i dont know if photoshop and ilustrator is anything that can be GPU accelerated but id probably go for a 8th gen I3 or I5 with a 1050TI or something like that

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

What kind of budget do you have? Which country do you live in?

Will you store many files locally, or will 120-250GB be enough?

Budget probably around $300, I'm in new york state, probably don't need that much storage since it will be a computer mainly used for printing anyway and most people have their files either online or on external hard drives

This ended up at $400. You could drop the 1050, and just use the iGPU, but getting that 1050 will improve performance significantly.

The build assumes you'll use rebates. Ignore the warning at the bottom. Kaby Lake has been out for ages, the BIOS should support it.

Great, thanks for the suggestion. I'll see what our exact budget is like to see if this is plausible.
