I was wondering if there is any way to save power consumption of a laptop by turning off the secondary hard drive (on a hdd caddy) in Windows 10 Home?

check in power options

advanced profile options

hdd tab

you can set hdd to turn off after #minutes of idle time(20mins is default)

tweak the other settings as well

this should be done under the powersaver mode profile

yup but it shuts off anyway when it reaches current idle time

not an issue as it only turns off if idle for that length of time and when needed turns right back on

so shorter wait time will let extra drive shutdown sooner which saves power
