so i was planning on buying a new gpu but then this happened.

apparently i only make things worse when i touch the graphics settings of a game. i was playing mass effect andromeda at 2560x1080 and it was fine. it didnt look too good all on low and stuff but it was at least playable.

the i just did a fresh install of windows since i got myself a new board and a nvme ssd. so i reinstalled andromeda and just left it at default settings. it now runs at native 3440x1440 and visually looks better then before with no noticable difference in fps. i mean its still not glamorous but way better than before.

so idk but this makes it easier to maybe wait for the next cycle of gpus.

and also it appears i have no freaking clue what im doing when it come to graphics settings i think i need to re-educate myself about that.

anyway i just wanted to share since i was really perplexed by it suddenly appearing to have enough juice where before i was convinced that was all it had left in it.

For most of the people having performance issues with their PC it is because they haven't clean installed windows in a long time or they did a clone/migration/upgrade.

Then they blame windows or their GPU manufacturer for the problem.

better education about settings is messing around with them :P take a sheet and note the changes you do, check the fps, tweak another setting, compare the visual quality and so on ;P have fun.

doesnt work because some of those im sure depend on each other where setting a doesnt suck performance if setting b is in-/active and does if not. and im not gonna go through every combination of settings also.

then theres also driver tweaks where you have even more settings and again interplay with the ingame settings.

i think i just need to actaully understand what each thing doeas and how it effects performance so i can make an educated decision.

I found the GTX 770 to still be fairly capable.  It's on par with a GTX 1050Ti in most titles. Only thing holding it back is the 2Gb vram in most cards.

At higher resolution scale back the AA and it will help a lot

yeah i noticed that was one thing i had turned on because for some reason even at native resolution its now off and looks a bit jaggy. i think it has to do with the lighting and reflexions that make it blocky.

also i always dismissed how much influence the cpu and drive speed have like since i switched to the 7700k and nvme from my old FX 8120. gaming has been way better. like i used to have stutters not all the time but every few minutes it would hickup and go down very low in fps before returning to "normal" and now its been smooth. like if i get low fps then at least i get consistantly low fps wich makes a hell of a difference. also since i installed my nvme loading times in andromeda are basically non-existent even compared to my 850 Evo before.

i still want to upgrade preferrably right now and have every on max and enjoy the glory but theres just no good options out there right now.

vega sucks a lot of power and just barely offers enough performance. and a 1080 ti i would a reference card for watercooling and those are hard to come by plus im gonna bite my own ass if int like 4-5 month volta comes out and is all of a sudden way better. i could live with 10% or something but if it destroys the way the 1080 ti did im not gonna be able to enjoy my system knowing i couldve down way better if i just were patient
