I've just finished upgrading my PC. What's next?

PSUGuru

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bgKJhq <-- That there is my current PC that I just finished upgrading.

I went from a 7500 to a 7700. The extra single core speeds help, but the extra threads will really help when it comes to rendering.

Went from a 750 TI to a 1060 6gb. Massive bump right there.

Got a good air cooler with some quality fans in push-pull, CPU temps won't be an issue.

Bought an SSD and a 2tb drive.

So, now I am curious on what I could do next? Preferably nothing too expensive. Like, I don't need a 1070. I am perfectly content with 1080p 60fps (Though I would actually like to get a 144Hz monitor one of these days). The wifi card I currently have is only a 802.11n, but I got it for free. I have no more room for storage. My case can only technically support two 3.5" HDDs, but I managed to cram a 3rd one in there (The HDDs were running at 50c. Managed to stick a 92mm fan to blow air through the drives. It's now down to 34c. I have two more slots for 120mm fans at the top. The 5.25" bay is useless. I had to remove the shroud to fit the GPU.

Currently, I am running an a TV screen as a monitor. Would like to replace it with something good, but inexpensive whilst looking very thin and sleek. Probably much to ask, but hey.

Got any ideas on what I should to to add on to this PC?

Would have highly suggest you not upgrade on that platform, and you wait to upgrade to an R7 1700 which would have only been a bit more for a motherboard, but ya know, too late...

1080p 144hz TN Free-sync is like $200 can find that on the PC part picker easy, G2460PF is my suggestiong

1080p 144hz VA(better) free-sync is like $250
https://www.amazon.com/FreeSync-1920x1080-Samsung-Professional-Monitor/dp/B072K3Z5NC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1500993415&sr=8-1&keywords=pixio+px245c&linkCode=sl1&tag=jokerprodu03-20&linkId=a84b9c9014cccccf3f7e55c410213958

would have also suggested an RX 580 due to monitor savings compared to G-sync...Say uh, what's the return policies where ya bought the parts lol

in any case 100% get a real monitor next

if you're using a wifi card, upgrade to wireless AC. before anything else. you'll notice the 3x speed increase

Wouldn't that require his router outputting to wireless AC?

yes it would. but if his router doesnt support wireless AC, then he has something else that he really should be upgrading, like his 10 year old router

Half the routers in my home are like the $20 TP-link ones just because all they need to do is stream netflix to devices

yes but if you use it as your primary device for gaming, then you should spend more than $20 on your router

i have a wireless N range extender, it works great for getting netflix to my TV, but i would never make it my primary.

that being said, i also have like 15 wireless devices on my network at any given time, so the extra bandwidth is nice.

I didn't want to swap the motherboard, that would've driven the price even higher and my budget was around 800$ for the upgrade. Plus, there's no good MicroATX boards that I really like for AM4.

Yeah, my router supports AC. I do plan on getting an AC card. I would run Ethernet, but I really don't want to run a 30ft cord to my router. I average 200 megabits per second download and 170 megabits per second upload. So, my wifi is plenty powerful. What's the best performing 50$ AC card?

51 minutes ago, Streetguru said:

Considered it, but decided the additional power draw and the programs that don't like Open CL as much as CUDA cores, wasn't worth it. This isn't 100% gaming.

A great CPU for rendering. But most of my work is done with the live render window, which relies solely on single core speeds.

I would say an actual monitor would be your next upgrade. It should help with input lag.

I want something that has a thin frame, so it's more screen than, well monitor for lack of a better term. I particularly like how the Acer monitor looks. I love how the HP Omen looks, but that's a bit pricey.

Suppose if you didn't need the extra cores, but ASrock makes an alright micro ATX board, and the R5 1600 + MOBO woulda cost the same if you paid retail on that 7700, although then I would have said wait until you can get an 8700 maybe

Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NVwy7h/by_merchant/

Motherboard: ASRock - AB350M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($64.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $258.87

The korean monitor I listed has fairly thin bezels, not sure that should really matter though, should be all about the panel no?

Yes you're right if you look directly at them.

You have to place them so you can't see them, indirect lighting.

Then the color is uniform.:)

I would try and save up for a 144 hz monitor rather than getting a stop gap monitor. I mean you said you wanted a 144 hz monitor so you are better off waiting and getting one then going cheap on a monitor. If you buy monitors correctly you shouldn't have to upgrade them nearly as much.
