When you think its the retailers that is dictating the prices its actually intel that is TELLING them what price to sell it as.

i had a little talk with B&H and the guy answered everything i wanted to know.. which is rare.

here how it went!

ZV7EEjS.png

when i asked if its intel to blame he tried to retreat but he got caught.

4hp4ANd.png

i gave him peace of my mind

qoxzVEU.png

here he clarified that is intel who has set the rediculous price increase of the 8700 non k or any other 8th gen chip price increase recently

here i just felt like asking him something stupid lol

maof5HR.png

The price was $312 first.. now its $340!!

340!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on newegg its higher ..

i know the prices may change without notice blah blah but damn intel.

a friend of mind told me about the fake price they add so when blackfriday or whatever sales occurs. they just cut it back to the price it suppose to be so basically they wins...

I HATE MY LIFE

He didn't confirm that it was Intel at all. All he said was it was the buyer and manufacturer who sets the price. Which isn't saying that Intel dictates prices, but rather the manufacturer has their selling price and the buyer chooses how much to sell it for based on what they think it can reasonably sell at.

Also, customer support likely has no clue who sets pricing.

The manufacturer (Intel) chooses to sell their CPU for lets say $300. Therefore, they affect the retail selling price, yes. But at the end of the day, the buyer will sell it for whatever they think they can (and are legally allowed to sell it at). Your conversation only shows that someone at B&H decided to sell it for $340 -- it says absolutely nothing about Intel raising their wholesale price.

And again, I can guarantee that a random customer support representative has absolutely no idea who actually sets the price.

Supply and demand set prices. Demand is high, supply is super low = stupid prices. Vote with your wallet and stop supporting Intel if their products are so expensive.

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

Intel has a MSRP  (manufacturer suggested retail price).  The distributor takes the cpu and adds a small fee (their profit and shipping costs) , the store then takes the cpu and adds their own margin and puts it on sale.

For example MSRP 350$ , intel gives cpu to distributor for 280$, distributor gives them to seller for 300$, seller puts 50$ markup on the cpu to reach the 350$ MSRP.  But, they don't have to sell at 350$ , they could offer discounts when bought with motherboards (bundles) or even sell it at higher cost if there's scarcity (and risk losing sales to competitors, other stores)

Intel sells a very low amount of 8th series processors, and from rumors, Intel FORCES distributors to take 10% 8th series processors and 90% other series processors from them ... so the distributors have to move the other processors as well.

Intel trickles 8th series cpus because they launched it prematurely (as seen by the lack of mid and low end boards) to counteract AMD's sales.

So in such situation, it's not unheard of to have higher prices for a hard to obtain product.

so why did the price rage at the suggested price on intel page which is $312 when the 8700 first came out? B&H and amazon had it for $312

It started at $312 to be competitive with everyone else. Then they realized they were selling out instantly, as was everyone else, and it was hard to get more CPUs, so they raised their selling price.

The dude in this chat is soooo far down that chain that you cannot take anything he says as fact. He may just be employed by an answering service contracted by B&H and not a direct employee. The fact that he says to email the actual support team seems to support this. Total guess though. He says they get direct, but they probably go through another channel between them and Intel.

to be real with you.. this whole pricing situation is messed up.

is there a chance of a normal person buying directly from intel? and getting it for 312?

B&H buys from a distributor who buys from Intel.  It's not Intel changing the pricing.

Fun fact: pretty much every place you buy a CPU from buys from a distributor.  Even Newegg I don't think takes deliveries direct from Intel.

The guy in chat was probably just some Indian in a call center with some templates that tell him how to answer to some questions or forward the conversation to a "senior" if he can't handle it.

(saying Indian not because i'm racist, but because they like to Capitalize Random words)
