I am on mobile so the layout will probably suck :/

I am planning a gaming build inspired by what BitWit built as a HTPC in his Evolv Shift - this is what I've come up with:

NO! For 3000 euros you SHOULD be getting more. At least a 8700K (also 7600K don't get)

Well the PC itself only costs aroun 2000€, the monitor is hella expencive.

And I don't need an i7, I'll only be gaming on the rig. But why do you think I shouldn't get a 7600k?

Yep, drop the 960 evo (no gaming performance increase over the 850), and use that spare cash to grab a coffee lake. Also look at getting a minimum 1TB 7200rpm HDD for mass storage, as 500GB will fill up fast.

HEADS UP, THIS ACCOUNT IS INACTIVE NOW

I'm keeping everything else the way it was for anyone who might check out my answers in future, but I won't be using LTT.

It's a good PC, don't get me wrong.

But you're putting the budget on the wrong things.

Sure you don't need an i7 for gaming, but with the budget you have getting an i5 is just silly.

Check this one out:

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/V4LCNN

32GB of RAM is not needed for gaming.

The 7600K is a generation old, you can get better for the same cash.

Got you an i7 instead (good for high refreshrates like your monitor)

RGB RAM.

Same motherboard but made for coffee lake.

100e more.

Droop the 960 as you really dont need that, Put in a 1tb HDD 7200 RPM, Upgrade to the 8600k (new platform, has 2 extra cores, can overclock like a beast and performs like the 7700k in gaming or better.)drop the 32gb of ram to 16 because you dont need it (get 2x8gb stick so if you need/want to expand way later down the road for any reason, you can just add more) and get a heftier watercooler. h100i is good and not a whole lot more and will keep your temps a bit lower with a high OC with extended use maxing out your system.

ROG Swift PG35VQ Gaming Monitor - 35 inch, Ultra-WQHD, HDR, 21:9 Curved, 3440 x 1440 ,  200Hz, G-SYNC™

That sounds sweet, I'll defernetely wait ^^

The Case I've decided on won't fit the h100i as far as I know, it is friggin tiny ^^

Ah i see my bad =P make sure you can get some good airflow through that thing as those high end components (especially OC'd) can get pretty darn hot. As your PC gets hotter for a longer period of time, the water temps will rise as well so im not sure if you'll be able to max out that CPU OC'd with it, but always worth a shot.

That's actually why I was going with a lower-end CPU, I figured it wouldn't overheat quite as quickly. But I guess I'll worry about the heat when I manage to get my parts.

If you set the H80i as intake for the CPU temps will be fine if you choose to not overclock it.

My recommendation stands with my build :)

Was wondering do you need water cooling if you overclock a GPU like 1080 TI

Sorry, I didn't notice you replied until now.

I'll be watercooling the CPU using an AiO watercooler from corsair (the H80i), but not the GPU. That should be fine, since I won't be using a reference 1080ti, but a boardpartner design (like Asus' 1080ti STRIX), which has a different and superior cooling solution etc.
