I got a +1000Mhz GPU overclock, is it safe?

AllHokage

So I just overclocked my GTX 970's core clock to +1000Mhz with basically no temperature or effect...

Does anyone know if this is actually safe and would this normally just crash for others with a GTX 970? I have the MSI GTX 970 Golden Edition and this is my first time overclocking, so I'm not that great at it and want to know some other peoples opinions.

If I max my memory clock, my computer just crashes, for anyone wondering about the memory clock.

Run a benchmark or stress test to find out, I imagine that it would crash but I don't know how well the 900 series OCs.

Try putting a load on it, see how long it lasts before the bsod appears

The GPU isn't under load, so you have effectively done nothing.

I would definitely drop the core voltage back down to <10mV, and I doubt you'll get more than maybe a +150MHz core overclock.

If you haven't done any load testing, the GPU hasn't even attempted that clock speed, and I suspect something will crash almost instantly, considering that my 970 is only able to hit about ~1.46GHz.

Side note: The title is a little click baity as you haven't achieved any overclock.

Thanks everyone, did some stress tests and the program just froze. I ended up being able to get 150Mhz overclock on both core and memory.
