Is This A Good Build?

[EDIT] I’ve changed a few things. I also want to know of some in-case lighting options. Preferably blue or purple.

I’ve never built a gaming pc before, only older 2000s computers. Just entering realm of gaming. Is this a good build? I’m looking for a white/blue asthetic, but staying close to the $1000 price tag.

(Keyboard, mice, and headset, are all just chosen asthetic wise for now, just want some feedback on them too.) Is there anything else that I would need?

What's the target resolution/refresh rate? Do you already have a monitor?

a 1060 isn't worth that much in any event. There is also 0 reason to buy Kaby Lake CPUs now

motherboard might need a bios update to use that cpu, check msi's site to see if they have a function to update bios without cpu just in case. psu probably sucks, this would be much better https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Q7L7YJ/corsair-cx-2017-450w-80-bronze-certified-atx-power-supply-cp-9020120-na  and you can get more capacity/better drives for less check out this site https://pcpartpicker.com

7th gen intel cpus might need a bios update on z170 before itll take them. Also, why would u buy a 6/7th gen CPU when the much better performing, as well as better cooled 8th gen intels just came out? I would advise getting an 8600k. if you look at benchmarks, it beats out the 7700k alot of the time or cuts even with it at the very least, and it runs much cooler for those who want to push a higher OC (average OC is 5-5.2GHz) The power supply should hold up even with a bit of overclocking. Id also advise getting ram at a higher clock speed, around 2666-3000.

If your set on getting the 7700k, just get a z270 board, and be prepared for high temps on stock speeds even on water.

I’m just looking for some light gaming at 1080p, my monitor supports 1,920x1,200

resolution. I chose the 1060 just for price, I’d upgrade after I build, and what CPU should I get? i5 8400?

Alright, Thanks so much, I’ll look into it. I was just using this PSU for a budget. What wattage do you think I’d need?

R5 1400 most likely, will be fine for 60hz gaming, though you can fit an R5 1600 in the budget it looks like, video has scaling results, the i5 8400 will be faster than the R5 1600, but that won't matter much with your GPU's performance, and I don't think the i5s are in stock yet, and only Z370 boards are available for now.

In addition AM4 should get new CPUs until 2020, so it's likely the better long term platform, and the extra multi-threaded performance is nice if you ever want to do streaming/game capture or something

Should surely get an 8GB RX 580 over 6GB 1060 with prices nearly back to normal

Whenever you upgrade your display, if you go for adaptive sync the AMD card saves you money with free-sync vs G-sync

Is probably going to be a horrible experience.

If you really just want a headset probably go for Sibera 200s, works fine, audio quality likely isn't as good as the Superlux 668bs for the money, but I have them and have no issues with them

the 450w unit I linked to would be enough, it's the best quality low budget psu atm from what I'm aware of

I edited the build. Does the asthetic of the RAM and PSU really matter?

You need an AM4 B350 or X370 motherboard, the ASrock pro 4 is white and alright for the money. Really wouldn't worry about asthetics at your budget, you can get cheaper PSUs with the same performance. A lot of the AM4 boards have poor VRM set ups for the money.

the 580 8GB is going to be better than the 1060 6GB especially Since the display below is better for gaming than the one you have listed there at the same price, that review has overclocked numbers for a card hitting 1500mhz, I would hope by this point is easier to hit given the maturity of the silicon.
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/powercolor_radeon_red_devil_rx580_8gb_golden_sample/4.htm

ASUS has the same kind of card but in black/white, not worth the $20 over the nitro below anyways, the backplate of the nitro is silver.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/sF648d/sapphire-radeon-rx-580-8gb-nitro-video-card-11265-01

1080p 144hz VA with free-sync for $250, free-sync currently only works with AMD cards, is also a korean monitor
https://www.amazon.com/FreeSync-1920x1080-Samsung-Professional-Monitor/dp/B072K3Z5NC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1500993415&sr=8-1&keywords=pixio+px245c&linkCode=sl1&tag=jokerprodu03-20&linkId=a84b9c9014cccccf3f7e55c410213958

Also I screwed up on the case, didn't realize the masterbox white had no air flow, the black version has a mesh front, but whatever Case you end up buying make sure it has a mesh front so your components stay cooler and can potentially run faster

Should use the PC part picker to make your list, you can force it to use amazon pricing as well, I'm sure there's more to cover though
