Question about PCIE ports.

This might be a dumb question but... I have a motherboard with a PCIE x16 slot with a PCIE x1 slot close below it (my ext. GPU card blocks this port). Can I use both slots separately (with an extension cable) or will I have to find another port for my wifi card. I have heard that the x1 port is supposed to compliment the gpu card.

You could use a riser.

What motherboard do you have?

What GPU as well?

Motherboard: FM2A68M-HD+

GPU: a not so great Radeon R7 250

 

A riser might be a good idea.

Yeah... I’ve ordered one already but I might have to cut a small hole in my plastic gpu case. Installing the wifi card there should not interfere with the GPU right?

Correct, you shouldn't have an issue so long as you install the wifi card at least a little bit below the GPU
