Trade MSI laptop for Alienware laptop?

would do it. much larger and better battery life. option to upgrade it via the only decent eGPU option on the market Alienware graphics amp.

Hello guys, currently I own a MSI GS40 laptop. It's a 14 inch screen laptop  with the following specifications:

14 inch 1080p IPS display

Graphics card: Nvidia gtx 970m 3gb

Processor: Intel core i7 6700hq

16GB of DDR4 RAM @2133mhz

256GB NVMe samsung ssd

1TB Hitachi HDD (7200rpm)

I'm wondering should I trade it for an Alienware 15 with the following specs:

15.6 inch 1080p IPS display

Graphics card: Nvidia gtx 970m 3gb

Processor: Intel core i7 4710hq

16GB of DDR3 RAM @1600mhz

150GB ssd (the owner said that NVMe ssd can be installed, I'm not sure tho)

1TB Toshiba HDD (7200rpm)

He also said that the keyboard and the battery were changed before he published the add.

I'm just so biased towards alienware... I guess the cooling will be better on the alienware laptop but is it even worth it?

I do game occasionally. Yesterday I played 2-3 hours of overwatch and the temps went to 75-80 ot medium settings (I bumped the settings down with the idea of keeping the temps low but...) That's mainly why I consider the idea of trading it for the Alienware's one. And the design of course... I'm such a fanboy...

I'll be glad to hear your opinions! :)

I dont see the Alienware bringing any extra performance (both CPU are limited by GPU in games anyway) other than the larger screen (which can only be noticed in side by side comparison). I would just stay with the MSI and not worry about hassle and problems a used item could bring.

I would do it, keep your ssd though (and have them keep theirs)

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Yeah I was thinking the same thing! The CPU on my MSI is like 1% better so I won't notice any difference most likely!

I will have some time to test it, but I see what you mean!

I haven't thought of the battery life. Should probably check it out! I don't really plan on getting AGA since I have a pretty good stationary PC at home, but who knows, it wouldn't hurt to have it as an option!

eGPU is coming. I know a friend who was lucky enough to hop onto the first gen 15R2 6820HK 970m. Now he's rocking it at 4.2ghz overclocked (super quiet too because GPU is basically off in the laptop) with a 1080ti via AGA.
