Initially chose to go with an i5 8600K mostly for gaming and little productivity. I stupidly bought the motherboard (~150€) and now I hear about months long waiting times.

I do not which to wait for after 15th November, sooner is better as I hardly have à gaming capable rig right now

Choices are: r5 1600X or i7 7700k (both with new motherboard, saving the one I have for later upgrade) or wait and hope

thx for answers or suggestions.

Edit: for info I live in France right now with possible trip to Atlanta soon

8700k or 8400 if you need a system now, or wait for your original planned CPU. You'll feel reeeeeally dumb a few weeks from now when you see one in stock, and you're sitting there with an entire different system with an expensive Z370 motherboard sitting next to it collecting dust, when you could have put it to use

I'd really like a system now and other coffee make CPUs are unavailable on most websites and so overpriced on Amazon France another rig would look cheap. The thing is I lack a scale of the ETA for it and I would feel really dumb having a full rig only lacking it's CPU sitting here for months.

This is the first time I hear wraith stealth can't cool a hexa core at 3.8-4 ghz, wasn't the "x is better binned" just an unconfirmed rumour?

Depends on voltage as well, but 1600X is better binned and most likely will hit 4.1GHz

Wait for it man.  Don't settle for the new AMD sentiment..."It's available and it's good enough".  Don't settle on something you are going to be using often for years.  You are setting yourself up for regret.

I wouldn't call it good enough.

Its a different use case scenario choice.

8600K will get you some 20-30 FPS higher in games (worth it for monitors over 100Hz imo) but after 2yrs you will have to get a new mobo for new gen.

Decent X370 motherboard will last you longer while being as expensive as decent Z370.

Both have good and bad things.

These are fair comments.  I'll add a couple thoughts I don't think many consider...

X370 is supposed to accept the next generation of chips, but the general expectation is AMD will, at best, match intel's gaming performance.  So in two years, they will be upgrading to the same level of gaming performance as they could have bought originally.

High refresh monitors are getting cheaper and more common.  I imagine there are going to be quite a few Ryzen owners who are goint to upgrade to 100Hz+ monitors and are going to miss those higher frames.

Well, depends where. While in US you can probably get 1080p 144Hz cheaper than a slice of bread, you hand out twice or more for a decent hfr monitor than for 60Hz one here.

Price of 8700K + 1080Ti in US will give you roughly 8600K + 1080 here.

In my country, Ryzen is very popular choice because for example 1600 costs over 100 USD less than 8600K

You'll regret not just waiting for the coffee lake chip, it would definitely be worth waiting for.

Some say it's coming in Q1 2018, I know it's great but not having à gaming PC for all this time?

My plan is more to get a temporary CPU+motherboard combo right now, good for gaming. I'm not even sure about the budget and how I will resell it after (might even return my z370 until then)

the rest of the rig will be ready (2666MHz ram, Coolermaster 212 X etc)

I've met grown men who are not capable of affording a gaming machine, but as kids grew up with some of the nicest one's I've seen.

You can wait a few months for a machine that will last 2+ more years than a Ryzen, or i7-7700k system.
