Need Server guide, Estimation

HI there, now a days i am so interested to make a data centre.I was planning for file hosting but thats a big deal as it needs lots of dollars to invest in.So i decided to start from Website hosting. But i am confused with choosing servers.I am thinking of Amd s, as they are cheap like AMD RYZEN 7.

Is there any way to estimate server Performance?

i know many factors affect it.

Assuming all are going well can anyone tell me what will be the good basic server for following

1.Gaming server(like some fps shooting gmaes)

2.Website which allows users to view pdf and download them

3.To host some websites having 1K visitors online anytime

4.File hosting like mediafire

Will i go for AMD & or some old xeon which are refurbished

Try to check eBay or your local equivalent for ex-lease/decommissioned servers. You can find deals for a lot cheaper than buying brand new hardware. I managed to build a server with dual Xeon L5640 with 48GB of RAM for about $250-300USD from parts.

for the applications you want the server is going to be the least important thing once the basic power is there.

if you want to host any of this you need an ultra fast internet connection, especially for file hosting once people start using it even 1 gigabit a second will not be enough.

the same applies for the website if it has any content with bigger files sizes.

once the connection is there you need a system that has fast enough storage to saturate the line under all conditions.

Hardware is really a fairly simple area once you get a few customers and can determine what your loads are and future requirements.

You can get really affordable ex-lease enterprise servers for a few hundred dollars these days such as the Dell PowerEdge R710 and the HP ProLiant DL380 G7

The bigger issue is once you start considering

-IP Address management

-Storage & Backup solutions

-Networking (routing/switching/vlan)

-Firewall, Antivirus and other Security mitigations

-Active network monitoring

-Resource management (cPanel, etc...)

-Billing systems
