Max voltage for R9 390?

steffeeh

Asking for a friend, who has an R9 390 and he wants to give it some overclocking.

I don't have any experience owning AMD graphics cards, so I don't know how high you can go with the voltage. I know on Nvidia cards the max voltage is hard capped, so you just shove the overvolt to the max and then start dialing in the overclock.

However how does it work with AMD cards? Do they also have a hard cap in a safe enough region, or is there a max voltage not to exceed for everyday use?

Assuming thermals are good that is.

Asus X99-A w/ BIOS 3402 | Intel i7 5820k OC @4.4GHz 1.28V w/ Noctua NH-U14S | 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 OC @2666MHz 12-14-14-28 | Asus Geforce GTX970 STRIX OC | EVGA 750 G2 750W | Samsung 850 Evo 1 TB | Windows 10 64-bit | Be-Quiet Silent Base 800 w/ Silent Wings | 2x Dell U2414H OC @72Hz w/ Display Port

Don't forget to invest in an Intel Tuning Plan if you're going to overvolt your K/X CPU

I had R9 390 before I went to GTX 1070, and I remember that I just pulled that slider for voltage to max. It was working more than fine.

+100mV isn't dangerous.

Not only is it not dangerous, it also doubles as a great space heater

That's an F in the profile pic

It does get a bit more hot, but with my R9 390 nitro back in the day I had no problems having temps in check.

But yeah it was great for winter when I just started valley benchmark for 1 hour and my room was much warmer lol
