Modi 2 multibit or modi uber or o2 dac/amp

Go to solution Solved by Max_Settings,

Multi-bit is like balanced in a way, some swear by it and say it's better, and others say it makes no difference. Personally I doubt it's worth $150 more. Go with a Modi 2(or uber if you need toslink or coaxial) or ODAC and a Magni 3, you will not be disappointed.

So I was wondering whether to get the multi bit modi 2 or the modi 2 uber or if I should get the o2 dac/amp. They are all in my price range and I can get any one of those but i was wondering if the multi bit could bring up possible problems? I was also wondering if the modi 2 multi bit and the magni 3 would work together as well as if the multi bit will really improve audio quality. Thank you!

No not at all, if does anything it may improve it, but that's debatable. I don't think it is worth $150 more.

Avoid the modi 2 multibit, it does not sound like any multibit DAC I have ever heard before and TBH it sounds bad. The normal modi 2 or uber are TBH better and cheaper.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Pssst... @Dackzy and @Max_Settings... I might get some mad-money during the holiday (cash I can burn w/o regret). You posted this reflection a couple of months ago. Do you still feel the Modi 2 Uber > the Multibit? What’s your gut telling you?

Added a 2nd user to the question, eh.

I wouldn't say one is "better", just that the Multibit does nothing and is not worth the money. And if you have $250 to spend on a DAC there are better options.

"Better" or "worse". Hell, I wish it was that easy. There's not magic black-box that'll make me 100% happy. I look at my listening habits (and future repair-ability).  My music collection is all over the map (all I know is that I'm not a base-head)... and I want zero hiss.  I have to restrict all my gaming, TV watching, and Floatplaning to headphones (to keep the family happy).

Meh... it's a great problem to have. @Max_Settings , I appreciated your comment. BTW, ~2600 posts?! Dang. Cool. :-)
