Time for a upgrade, games are not running the best atm and i think my vid card is on its way out ( screen glitch's, Driver crash's and stuttering). I plan on getting a 1080ti for longevity but have been told my cpu is going to be a bottle neck. The games I play are PubG, WoW and I am getting ready to get into some Star Citizen with some mates.

So atm I am running

5-3570k
G.Skill F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL 8GB (2x4GB) 1866MHz DDR3
AsRock Z77 professional motherboard
EVGA 780 SuperClocked
2 Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB 2.5in SSD in raid

I live in Australia and the 2 shops I can get gear from are https://www.pccasegear.com and https://www.scorptec.com.au/

I was thinking something like this https://www.pccasegear.com/wish_lists/757209 and using all of my old parts like SSD's and case. Plan on getting a new power supply due to the one I have being a cheap replacement for the one I lost not long ago.

Don't know if it would be better to get a intel CPU or stick with ryzen for more cores for the future. Or if I could overclock the 1700x with the AMD Wraith Max cooler that comes in the bundle.

Any feed back would be awesome as the more i read into parts and benchmarks the more lost I feel.

Thanks in advance :)

For those games, the 8700K will be better. It will cost more, though.

If you decide to get a Ryzen, don't get the 1700X, just get the 1700. Don't get any B350, MSI X370 or Gigabyte 4 phase board if you plan to overclock with anything other than the stock cooler.

The CX750 is unnecessary. A 550W PSU is more than enough. Better units for around the same price are the TXM and Focus Plus Gold.

:)

I think you have forgotten to mention your budget...you also did not mention your power supply so I would I assume you want a new one, also if you not considering overclocking you would not need a really expensive CPU-cooler or even a really high-tier motherboard...anyway all what I'm saying that we want you to be more specific to what you want to do? sure you want to play high-demanding games but some ppl doesn't consider overclocking the CPU an option so theres no point of getting the expensive motherboard or even aftermarket cooler...

Looking at the 8700k spec's it looks good. Costs a lot more but it looks good.

If the 8700k will be better I might see if stocks at my local shops restock soon. Are there any limits when it comes to the MB for the 8700k ?

I had around a $2300 budget but I will add a bit more if in the long run its better.

The reason I went for the 750W was due to looking up that wish list and putting it into a power supply calculator.

MSI am4 boards are quite meh, and a Ryzen 7 would be a worse choice than something like an 8600k or 8700k seeing as op is only gaming.

You could probably go 8600k instead. The difference isn't that large but you save >$100.

True, I just tried to match the kit and see if I could squeeze out a bit more.

I didn't see any 8700K in stock so went with what was but definitely agree, for gaming the 8700K is the best choice :)

The i5-3570K is a pretty good cpu. I would not worry about "bottlenecking" a GTX 1080 Ti. With some titles any cpu will have trouble keeping up with a GTX 1080 Ti. But for most titles, you should get very playable frame rates with the i5-3570K, especially if you get a reasonable overclock.

Get the gpu first. Once you have used it for a bit, you can contemplate upgrading to the latest and greatest cpu platform.

I would love it if that was the case but my mate spent the last 6 hours Linkiing me youboob videos of people showing split screens of i3570k and other. Pus showing the bottle necks. Think I just wait and get the 8700k.

Thank you everyone for the input. I would of been lost win out you all.

When you talk about "bottlenecking" do you simply mean that the gpu is not running as fast as it can or do you mean the gpu is not performing well enough to game? It is really only the later case that matters. Having a part that isn't performing to its maximum potential while not optimal, should not force a budget breaking upgrade.
