Dual Light Setup

Nephanor

Okay, I am looking at getting a setup of lighting which involves UV LEDs and RGB lights which are controlled through ASUS Aura (as the motherboard will support it).  What I am trying to do is have it so that both can be controlled through Aura so I can have two profiles: One where the RGB is on and the UV off, and the other where the UV is on and the RGB off.  Can Aura pull this off?  If not, what kind of additional software/hardware would I need?  I want both controlled via software, not hardware switches.  Is this even possible without too much effort?

No, the rgb header in motherboards only have 3 channels. Red Green and Blue. you would need a dedicated controller for the UV channel

But if you have a board with 2 rgb connectors that are independent of one and other. you can do it

Well, the motherboard I am looking at has two Aura connectors, so that sounds like it would work.  What would I need to connect the UV LEDs to that other RGB header?

As long as it allows for independent control it could be possible but you would basically need to run the UV strip as white in the software (RGB all on) to ensure the SMD5050 UV lights all turn on using SMD5050 chips.

Okay, let's try this from another angle as ASUS responded to my query and said it wouldn't work to connect the UV lights to the board.  Are there other solutions to control both RGB and single color LEDs that have software integration?

I suggest going RGB or UV. Unless your trying to switch between RGB & UV. With True UV lighting the more colors introduced into case the less UV effect will be seen. That is before you add in room lighting. I did a bit of testing on this before I decided on my case lighting.

------

As far as question you can't do it. The header is designed for RGB(R,G,B,+12v), UV requires 12V + Ground Wire.

You can create system for UV with basic Fan headers & use a fan controlling software to turn it on or off(Or create a dimming system). I have system setup that can disable lighting with one click in AquaSuite Software.

Current Build: Project Frost
Gaming Rig Build: Project Ice Dragon

That's kind of my idea.  I want to swap between one and the other.  When RGB is on, the UV is off and vice versa.  Since purple isn't very bright under UV, I can't really have a strong presence with it in the colors.

Now this sounds like it is headed in the right direction.  How do you have this set up?  I may want to use this setup.

Nice....do you have a build log for this part of it?  I would love to see how you set it up in your system.  I am still a few months away from building my machine, which is why I am getting all the info together now.  Heck, I can test some of it out in the machine I have now, just to see how well it works.

I havn't gotten around to it yet. Just follow on my build log & it will be shown shortly.

This is the lighting I used & 100% works with my setup. The lighting will also last & UV light is true UV, Unlike some other brands out there.

Yes, I'm starting on the lighting wiring today. I had to wait for some more 22 AWG wiring & terminals.

@Nephanor check out our CableMod hybrid LED solutions, we offer a kit with them as well for control as they are a 5-pin design and cannot be ran off of the ASUS Aura headers. These come in both RGB/UV and RGB/W. :)

Hey @CableMod, I saw those in my search.  They are an awesome idea, but missing one key thing I wanted for this build: controlled through software.  If you guys added that functionality, I would be all over them!
