Imac for fun

I want to get a relatively recent Apple computer to try out the Operating system(and im a sucker for there design). I was thinking of either getting a Core 2 Duo Mac Mini, IMac, or Macbook that can run El Captian or Siera. Can anyone who uses these machines tell me if these older machines can still use the newer OSes relatively smoothly, not looking to render or edit so power isnt really my aim.

Hackintosh or a VM.

Talking about this is against forums rules but you could always google about it.

macOS Sierra needs one of the following:

  • MacBook (Late 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
  • iMac (Late 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Mid 2010 or newer)

I think El Capitan is the same, maybe one of these may be 2009 or 2008.

I found some that run Capitan, is Capitan still relatively supported in apps like browser and Itunes?

No, I am just saying the above method is not allow to be discussed on this forum. I won't able to setup it up or tell you further question or I am going to get warning. But there is tones of videos/website showing detail setups you might want to have a look at.

General rule of the LTT forums, don't talk about Macs, or you will be burnt at the stake.

I don't think you can use an iMac as a monitor.

Pretty pricey way to try out an OS.

Hackintosh or play around with a Mac at the Apple store.
