Ryzen 1600x bottleneck 980ti?

Will a Ryzen 5 1600x bottleneck my 980ti? I currently have a FX-8350 8 core processor, and I believe it's bottlenecking my 980ti, because I notice significant framerate drops in games with the same level of graphics, but which are way more cpu intensive. I also want to play games like Arma, and my processor doesn't handle cpu intensive games well. Obviously Intel would be a better option, but I'm on a budget here. Would a Ryzen 5 1600x be a good option? What are some quality low price motherboards to go with it? And what ram frequency do you recommend, considering I will have to upgrade to DDR4.

A Ryzen 5 1600X will not bottleneck a 980ti.

I would recommend getting a 16GB DDR4 3200 Ryzen Certified kit.

Ryzen loves faster memory, and 3200 is the sweet spot where in some games you will see a 10-15fps difference because of the RAM speed.

I would suggest getting a 1600 and doing an overclock. The included Wraith Spire Cooler will be adequate for starting for sure.

As for the motherboard, I would recommend the board I have in my signature, just for upgradability in the future.

Some people may argue with me on that point, but if you want to be able to upgrade to Zen + or Zen 2 in the future, going X370 will be the better bet.

Otherwise, the ASUS B350 STRIX is a good choice as well with Ryzen 5.

Desktop:

AMD Ryzen 7 @ 3.9ghz 1.35v w/ Noctua NH-D15 SE AM4 Edition

ASUS STRIX X370-F GAMING Motherboard

ASUS STRIX Radeon RX 5700XT

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 3200

Samsung 960 EVO 500GB NVME

2x4TB Seagate Barracuda HDDs

Corsair RM850X

Be Quiet Silent Base 800

Elgato HD60 Pro

Sceptre C305B-200UN Ultra Wide 2560x1080 200hz Monitor

Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum Keyboard

Logitech G903 Mouse

Oculus Rift CV1 w/ 3 Sensors + Earphones

Laptop:

Acer Nitro 5:

Intel Core I5-8300H

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 2666

Geforce GTX 1050ti 4GB

Grab the 1600 non-X and a B350 motherboard, you can have both for really cheap. Put a bit of overclock on your new chip, if you already have a AIO use it for the best results. It won't be a bottleneck.

For memory, it's better to go for 1-2 sticks of 3000 or 3200 rated rams with samsung b-die, like most G.Skills have.

Quality and low price dont go together very well, especially with mobos.

I'd get Asus Strix B350-F/MSI B350 Carbon/ MSI B350 Krait/ Asus Prime B350 Plus.

For the memory, Corsair LPX Vengeance 3000MHz.

If you are on a budget, get 1600 because it comes with a very decent cooler.

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM

No it will not bottlneck see videos below. 3200 speed RAM is a must with Ryzen to get the most out of the platform

Like someone said above if you can afford in X370 board they are committing to that platform until 2020 and with Zen 2 it will work.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k Cooler: Fractal Design Celsius S36 GPU: Asus GTX 970 Strix RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2x8GB 2400  Mobo: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Case: Fractal Design Define S PSU:  EVGA Supernova 750 W G2 SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 256 GB

Thanks everyone for the help. I do have an AIO already in use. The Corsair GTX H100i V1. I'd just need to get an AM4 bracket for it.

But I'll stick with 3200 RAM and a decent motherboard.

There are some AM4 boards that support AM3 brackets.  The Asus Crosshair VI is an example.

your FX is indeed chocking this card pretty hard, an R5 1600X would be a nice improvement, but an i5-8400 would be even better for gaming...and it should not cost much more once everything is factored in.

Another neat thing is if you was using a am3+ board you can use the cooled on am4 aswell which is what im going to be doing for my next build
