8th gen, unless the 7th gen gets a huge price drop. Never get Ryzen however, they suck for gaming. Intel chips around the same price will get 5-30 FPS more in most games.

Get a 6th or 7th gen. Don't get a Ryzen if you mostly want to play games, not worth it yet. They still suffer from bad optimization.

Intel is not worth it unless you need 1080P 144Hz or 240Hz

I am playing games and have no issues with Ryzen.

8th gen. It'll mark the beginning of mainstream 6c/12t CPUs to match Ryzen.
