Charge and discharge cycles

LahryMusic
Go to solution Solved by Mira Yurizaki,

Every time you do a deep discharge on a lithium type battery, you lose a bit of capacity (among other factors but this is one of them). After 500 cycles, the capacity is going to be at a point where the battery is considered no longer useful. That doesn't mean it won't hold a charge, but it means more like it can only store 50% of what it could brand new or something like that.

I don't know what the real value is, but that's what it means.

Anyone have a good explanation of charge and recharge cycles, I've read that my laptop "Alienware 15 R3" has 500 or so cycles. I understand that its when the battery is used until dead then recharged, but what happens after 500 cycles?

You get what you pay for.- Me

After 500 it immediately dies.

Or it just loses some capacity.

Its not as bad as that. probably 70-80% of original if battery is of good quality. At 672 cycles my iPhone 4S battery is at 75% but is now getting unstable.
