G4560 vs i3 7100

Hey guys I'm planning on upgrading my cpu but I can't spend much, so I was thinking the Pentium g4560 which I've heard and seen that, it's vfm cpu, and it can also go toe to toe with an i3 pretty easily (hyperthreat)

Then I thought should I go for the 7100? I mean it's about 10-15% faster and about 20 bucks more expensive, plus higher frequency...

What do you guys think?

the G4560 used to be a better deal at about $70, now that it's about $93 its a harder sell. In the end though, when it comes to gaming you wont see much of a difference between the two

I guess I shouldn't be expecting much difference in gaming performance, yeah

As for the Ryzen, yeah I thought it too, and I have it In the back of my mind

Agreed. If you can get the 4560 for $50-60 I would say go for it. I have one myself. I got it for $55. I am working on a R3 1200 so I will be able to compare them head to head. $85 for the 1200.

Jayztwocentz just did a head to head comparison on these two processors. Honestly the r3 1200 may be a bit slower that the other two cpus. However, the am4 socket should leave you with an upgrade path a few years from now. If you go whit a 100 or 200 series mother board from Intel it's sounding like coffiee lake wont be compatible and you would need to upgrade to a new motherboard too.

you cant upgrade cpu without motherboard & also have to know what ram you are using. if its ddr3 then you need ram too.

i3 7100 has hyper-threat xD

Not worth it as the major improvement from the G4560 to the i3 7100 is in the iGPU, a Ryzen 3 1200 might be a better over all pick

Careful with this statement as in many countries the G4560 has remained at original pricing and OP is from Greece could be his case.

Are you implying that one of us should smuggle in a G4560 to Greece?

Oh no I just mean that price wise the G4560 might be very attractive deal still even though I already stated preference for the Ryzen 3 1200.

I think Intel will have a Quad Core upgraded G4560 with the new Coffee lake platform. The new i3 is 4cores. I would say the OP should go with the 1200 and later upgrade to something like a 1600 or 1700 when the zen 2 is released.
