DarthNeo1964

Of these monitors, which would you get - more than a casual gamer but not hard core any more either...

If you have any better suggestions for under $700 and at LEAST 34" let me know.

Also, is there a TV that would work well with the 970?

Thanks!

Either of the 1440p ones will be fantastic.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

None of them.

the 970 is going to have a lot of trouble pushing anything 1080p Ultrawide at 144Hz, or 1440p Ultrawide.

maybe try finding one with G-sync

Those are very expensive (and hard to run) monitors to pair with something like a 970. Don't get me wrong, I love my 970 and its good for 1080p gaming. But, its an older card now and is not powerful enough to run any of those monitors.

The 1440p Acer is the best choice, but you'll likely have to run it at reduced settings to get any kind of decent frame rate. The 970 is a pretty slow GPU by todays standards.

I wouldn't go anywhere near a 1080p 35" monitor. Disgusting.

If your intent is gaming, then a TV will likely have much too much lag for anything super enjoyable.

I am replacing an HP 40" monitor that was 1920x1080p - I was ok with how that one looked and would not be looking for another one if it had not given up the ghost (it's over 6 years old and been through many brown outs and power surges here in Florida).  So if I am ok with 1080p, what might you suggest, again, no smaller than 34?

Thanks...

And thanks to EVERYONE for the input so far!

Are you dead set on ultrawide? You can get a cheaper standard aspect ratio monitor, if price is an issue.

Something like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/VdM323/hp-omen-320-75hz-monitor-w9s97aaaba

Or this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/PbX2FT/asus-monitor-pb328q

If you really want to go UW, I'd still go with the Acer. It's more pixel dense for a very small amount more.

If you'd rather spend less, go with the Acer for the UW. If you can swing it, buy the 2 pack, sell one, and you'll come out with a very cheap monitor.

The 35" or 34" Acer?

I just really got used to the 40" HP  - so I don't want to go TOO small.  Is there a TV option that is better?

I really appreciate your input!

I wouldn't go TV. Too much processing.

The 34" Acer, unless you'd really rather not spend the extra $200.

Though if you bought the two pack I imagine you could get away with only paying $399 - $450 after you sell one of them.

32" isn't smaller, IMO it'd appear bigger.

Blue is 32", green is 34".

When I first saw UW in person I was very underwhelmed.

This is kind of interesting as for what a 970 can do (scroll past the name intro, good info inside) and let me know what you think...

I was totally happy with my 40" 1080p monitor before it gave up the ghost.  So am I overthinking this, over reading what critics and users say I should and should not do?  If I was happy with 40" at 1080p, won't 35 inches at 1080p look even better?

I love forum, so much good info for real, but sometimes it is OVER LOAD!

LOL

Wound up going with an LG-34UM69G-B and I love it!

So sharp, running at 75hz - great price for 34" monitor!
