I7 7700K

Go to solution Solved by Gerr,

65*C on a stressed CPU is pretty good.  Anything below 80*C is considered good and 90*C is when you start to be concerned.

You have some room to OC it if you want.

In my rig i have an i7 7700k being cooled by a kraken x62 closed loop. My idle temps are sitting at about 90 F. i’ve Heard conflicting reports from my friends saying that it is too hot and some say its fine. There is no OC on it

intel screwed up, they used lowquality TIM.

His temp isn't 90C it is 90F they shouldn't need to delid

The TIM is fine, but Intel's application method isn't. ;) They use too much adhesive and/or change the IHS design without changing their application method. The 6700K uses the same TIM but it doesn't have the same thermal issues.

at idle, not load temp, delidding will give OP better results.

32C is a very common idling temp. If it were around 50c+ at idle, then I'd worry.

That is only 32 degrees Celsius though, that is a fantastic temp already

At idle? Depends, if the room temp is 20C, not really :P Delidding will definitely improve temps, even if the CPU is running at stock.

Discussing CPU temps in F makes my brain shut off even though I can do the conversion in my head. Idk why....

But yeah, it would help to know ambient room temps even though that seems more than fine.

32C idle is perfectly fine (especially for a 7700k); you'll move closer to 35-40C if/when you OC it to 5GHz (and if you have XMP for 3000+ Mhz RAM, then add another couple degrees on top of that).

Am I the only one who's going to say that idle temps are completely meaningless? you should prevent your CPU from thermal throttling so you don't lose performance that's it... sure if it runs above 75Cº even if doesn't throttle it may still reduce its life expectancy but lets be honest here Intel states their CPUs are expected to live 15 years, you're reducing it to 12 years.... will you still be using the i7 7700k here in 12 years?

CPU temps are almost always measured in *C, not *F, so please make those conversions before posting.

90F is fine, 90C would be bad.

65*C on a stressed CPU is pretty good.  Anything below 80*C is considered good and 90*C is when you start to be concerned.

You have some room to OC it if you want.

i've never done an overclock before. how high do you think i could get it up to/ what do i really do to OC besides change power and speed

Plenty of guides on the Internet as where to start, but you can only overclock on a Z170 or Z270 motherboard, so make sure you have one of those.
