Yes that CPU will last you sometime BUT with the way technology is moving forward and games you might as well wait for coffee lake as i will have 6 cores and as i have been seeing from what others have said that some games now benefit from multiple cores, so will your CPU 7700 last YES, should you wait for coffee lake YES, should you get a ryzen CPU NO unless you want a new motherboard with your upgrade :)

coffee lake will not be supported by the socket 1151 motherboards so he'd need a new motherboard for that as well.

Pretty sure its 1151 but you need a 300 series chipset to use it.

So mobo manufacturers will have to include updated chipsets

The i7 7700 is the third best gaming processor in the world right now only loses to the overclocked i7 6700k and overlocked i7 7700k, you can pair it with a GTX 1080ti with zero bottlenecks and will be relevant for the coming 4 years for sure, so this is a very good purchase if you want the extra horse power by only replacing CPU, the difference between the i3 6100 and the i7 7700 is huge and you'll be very pleased.

I would try and get a 6700 non k instead, they are super cheap second hand.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

pretty sure an overclocked i7-4770K/4790K can beat a 7700 non K handily...and so would an i7-5820K/6800K etc. and all the X99 CPU's and stuff...but you're right :) it's a very strong CPU for gaming

She* Please :3

The i7 4770k with moderate oc falls a bit shorter than it seems it usually ties up with my i7 6700 for the most part, gotta keep in mind we had the "last big" jump in IPC thanks to better lithography going 14nm there, the i7 4790k well overclocked does beat it though and usually ties up with the i7 7700k at stock for the most part, but be that as it may it is nice to point out the end user experience won't be bad just because you won't overclock, it is still more horse power than the overclocked i5's and outperforms any ryzen chip under the 1600 for sure so a good go nonetheless ^^

haha :P post your best cinebench R15 score so i can prove you wrong ;)

4770K and 4790K are the same chip...if both run the same clock they perform identical.
