Hello,

So over the past few months, my PC seems to randomly freeze when running intensive tasks. And this has gotten to the point where it's started to ruin my experience when playing games, programming and even just watching YouTube videos at 1080p.

I have done various things, such as

  • Swap out the RAM for a new sticks, changed the DIMM slots they are located in.
  • Swapped the motherboard.
  • Swapped the GPU.
  • Re-installed windows 8.1 multiple times on different HDDs.
  • Checked all wires on the motherboard and PSU.

Unfortunately, none of these seemed to work and I am totally lost as to what can be causing the issue, below are my computer specifications and software that I currently have installed.

PC Specs: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/wRZNtJ

Parts that don't exist:

Video Card: 2048MB ATI AMD Radeon R7 200 Series (MSI)

Storage:

  • 465GB Seagate ST3500312CS ATA Device (SATA) 2x
  • 1863GB Western Digital WDC WD20EFRX-68EUZN0 (SATA)

The current software that I have installed on my machine are: http://prntscr.com/gm7ti4

Jetbrains Toolbox installs applications (IDEs and don't list them on the program features, the programs that have been installed are: IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate, PhpStorm, CLion)

I have also updated all my drivers to the latest versions just to let you know. :)

If you need anything else, I am happy to provide.

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

Try Task Manager, see whether any weird background process is running, because it does not seem that hardware is the issue at the moment.

OK so an update on this ~ I have decided to uninstall a few programs from my PC:

  • Java JDK 8
  • Driver Booster
  • AMD Catalyst
  • JetBrains Toolbox

So far, no freezing issues have encountered me, hopefully this stays how it is now, I will post an update in two days time coming to a conclusion.

Thanks :)

OK so here's an update:

The system continues to freeze forcing me to hard-restart the computer. I have gone through the length of just uninstalling everything (using the windows refresh) and the issue seems to persist. I did install Ubuntu, and the OS never hung/freeze on me. And there isn't any chance that the system has a hardware issue else-wise it would freeze for any OS.. Right?

Right now, I am lost for options.

OK, here is a little update:

So after some deep digging around in Google's search engine and Mircrosoft's search engine (Bing) I found a command that managed to fix a corrupt component in the operating system. That command is:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Hopefully this fixes the freezing issue, if not, ill report more on.
