Intel 2600k Time for upgrade?

Alright peeps, I just watched linus new vid about upgrading cpu. I've been debating with myself to upgrade from my 6 years old i7 2600k (oc to 4.8ghz. Other Specs: gtx 980, 4x4gb DDR3 1600MHZ ram) for quite a while. I feel like it's starting to show its age with newer game titles struggling to reach >100fps (I have a 1080p Benq gysnc 144hz monitor) on medium/high settings. But judging from the vid, would upgrading to an i7 7700k be worth it? Or is it better if I get a gtx 1080?

Check to see how much of your CPU is being utilized during games.

don't upgrade to a 7700k, you'll see some more cpu power but with the 8700k right around the corner, intel being pushed to provide higher core count cpus to the market, it's just not a good move at the moment. Use something like msi afterburner to monitor cpu and gpu usage and see what the weak link is in your system

Probably the worst possible time to upgrade your pc atm, wait a few months if you can for volta and coffee lake.

Can your ram OC to something like 2133? You might see a nice boost on some tittles like pubg
