Custom case? Mod? Or buy?

Tylerspyler

So I will start off by saying that, I do not post much of anything at all. So I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge.

With that out of the way. My custom pc case is no a looker by any measure. It does however house a z800 motherboard, a asus 1070, a thermaltake toughpower 750w, and 2 astek intel AIO watercoolers without any space issues. However, it is not layed out very well. The thermals arent bad, but cable management is non existent. I dont have any of the slide trays for ssd, hdd, or cd drives. And it is not RGB friendly whatsoever.

My question is, what would be a good idea to start with? A case that will even house these components will be quite pricey ($250 us+). Should I try to make one from scratch? mod this case so it will work better for me? I am quite handy with a welder, and have plenty of time to complete it. (winter is close)

Unfortunately no, Its HPTX. The board is almost as big as 2 ATX boards.

You may be able to get an hp z800 chassis from ebay for a reasonable price, http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Z800-Workstation-Case-Chassis-Only-/263093653119. If so, it would be better to mode an empty box, rather than tear apart something that does work.

Have you looked around for a used Corsair 900D?

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I have looked into both. I keep.looking on Craigslist, recycling places and so on. But they either want far too much or are in bad disrepair.

The 900D would be awesome! It's just very expensive. I have not spent very much on the whole system, maybe $800 in total? So, spending $300 on a case is more of a last resort.

edit* I also am not a fan of ordering something used without seeing it first. So eBay is not what I "want" to do.
