OK, im helping a teacher to upgrade her computer, which is actually preety good. It has a Core i5 6th Gen, and 8 GB of RAM, however it has AN HDD!!!

So, which are the best 2.5 inch SSDs for a laptop in terms of bang/buck and which capacity is ideal.

Extra credit eh?

I have cloned the hard drive in about a dozen laptops for work.  I used the Samsung 850 evo and the data migration tools it comes with for all of them and have not had a single failure or issue.  The size depends on how big the original drive is and how much stuff she has on it.  If she has 200GB on the drive she would need a 256. etc.

Pretty much any.

The real world performance difference between SSDs is pretty much irrelevant. What you want is high endurance in your drive.

I typically use ADATA drives because they have pretty good price per gigabyte (usually are near the best while still being reputable).

Crucial tends to have the best write endurance.

Samsung tends to be the fastest, but IMO, you pay an undue premium for that speed.

Intel Xeon 1650 V0 (4.4GHz @1.4V), ASRock X79 Extreme6, 32GB of HyperX 1866, Sapphire Nitro+ 5700XT, Silverstone Redline (black) RL05BB-W, Crucial MX500 500GB SSD, TeamGroup GX2 512GB SSD, WD AV-25 1TB 2.5" HDD with generic Chinese 120GB SSD as cache, x2 Seagate 2TB SSHD(RAID 0) with generic Chinese 240GB SSD as cache, SeaSonic Focus Plus Gold 850, x2 Acer H236HL, Acer V277U be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, Logitech K120, Tecknet "Gaming" mouse, Creative Inspire T2900, HyperX Cloud Flight Wireless headset, Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

You can get a Samsung 850 Evo 500 Gigs for under $200 USD most days.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
