Gaming PC Upgrade on a Budget

Hi all,

I am going to be upgrading a friends PC, he is running a rather old PC with quite low specs for gaming.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/RxzGQV

Here is a link to his current set up, this would include a bronze 500w PSU, 1TB HDD and a 60gb SSD, mid-tower case.

I would like to upgrade or salvage as many parts as I can to create a £500 budget gaming PC that has the possibility to be upgraded in the future, below is a quick mock up which is over-budget but I think the Mobo and possibly the CPU will need changing to be more future proof.

Any help on the best way to upgrade this pc would be appreciated.

not that low end, you could get a higher end card like the HD 7950 for around 100 Quid, It would perform around the same as the GTX 1060, just for 2 times cheaper

Since that the Z270 motherboard supports overclocking and your CPU isnt unlocked for overclocking, consider changing the motherboard because paying more money for a more expensive motherboard that supports overclocking when you cant even overclock you CPU anyway and it isnt unlocked would be a waste of money.

I wouldnt bother upgrading is current PC because his current components are outdated and probably cant play most current AAA title. I think if your building a "budget" gaming PC, ryzen would be the way to go here!

I made  build for you, just add a HD 7950 or something like that in it, and you've got a beast for about 550 quid

Ohh, if you don't care about the Looks of the PC, then you can swap out the Ram for some faster and cheaper ram, that don't have the heatsink i think...

I'm sorry what the hell is this, a 1060 3GB is considerably faster than a 7950...

I meant, The HD 7950 some what near the GTX 1060, If you get one of the GIgabyte Hd 7950 Rev 2.0 They over clock to 1.1ghz core and 1.35Ghz mem, It will perform near to the GTX 1060 3 GB and it will be half the price of it also, To you'll get more Performance for your money. Also, you can even Boost the Performance on the HD 7950 With a modded bios, if you have a Rev 2.0 card. I've tried, got a 20% increase in Performance. It was performing alot more than a GTX 1060 3 GB. Now nail that m8. If needed i can give you evidence of it increasing and outperforming the GTX 1060 3gb

This has a better GPU and Ryzen 1600 but is £620

This is again a Ryzen 1600 but has a slightly better motherboard and is cheaper at £580 as it has the 3GB 1060

Both of these mobos are trash.

MSI is way worse than Asus.

The 7950 is some what near the GTX 960, not a 1060, maybe if you mess around with it for days you can get it somewhat near.

VRMs on MSI succ very hard.

Asus VRMs are fine but the mATX has no heatsinks and therefore is not good for anything with more than 4 cores
