Advice needed for a new graphics card.

Hi,

 

So I was playing a game and my graphics card just started to artifact. 30 seconds later and my beloved GTS450 finally gave up the ghost and died.

So I'm in a predicament and I want your opinion and help.

 

I'm in need of a new graphics card and am unsure of which to pick. I was thinking about a HD 7870 as I have seen them on offer as old stock for around £130 for a 2GB model. The MAX I want to spend is around the £130 give or take £5-6.

 

Any suggestions are welcome and thanks for you help.

7870 is a fantastic card for the price, but I hear they are getting rare now so you should probably pick it up ASAP if you want that card.

Radeon 7870 or a GTX 660. What CPU and PSU do you have?

If you can get a 7870 for a good price that you ar e willing to pay I would get that. I have one currently and play BF4 on Ultra smoothly. Though my CPU and GPU are OC'd

considering you are still running a core 2 duo I would either spend the money on a new CPU + MB or get something around and HD 7770. because your C2D is going to bottleneck the heck out of a HD 7870

considering you are still running a core 2 duo I would either spend the money on a new CPU + MB or get something around and HD 7770. because your C2D is going to bottleneck the heck out of a HD 7870

I have an old SKT775 system, I will proberbly be upgrading in parts, the cpu and motherboard were my priorities, but now this has happened, that will have to change. As for the PSU i have a 550W "Generic" PSU but not the really cheap and nasty ones.

The 7870 is a great card. I would go with that

get the 7870 or 7950 if you can find it(longest lasting solution) ignore any remarks about bottlenecking, your not going to get more performance by getting a lower card and the price itll cost to get a new rig wont be made up for by a cheaper card.
overclock your c2d and youll minimise any bottlenecks but contrary to popular belief it comes down to what games you play, a 4770k will bottleneck in world of tanks as much as a haswell based pentium...
you can get a q6600 relatively cheap for the mean time if you must.

Great to see slightly older cards still getting a good shout, it was only about 9 months ago everyone was saying how great the 78xx 79xx cards are and that we should buy them. So good choice and good luck!
