I recently bought a GTX 1080Ti Hall of Fame from KFA2 (I believe they are called Galax in the US and Canada) and I have been trying to overclock it.

The card is the the "8 Pack Approved" edition from OverclockersUK (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/kfa2-geforce-gtx-1080ti-hof-8-pack-approved-11264mb-gddr5x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-09g-kf.html) which according to this video should overclock really well.

However, I have 'only' managed to get the following settings stable (using MSI Afterburner; testing stability with Fire Strike, Time Spy, Valley, Heaven, and Superposition):

128% Power Limit

90°C

+60 Core Clock (resulting in a total of ~2000MHz, often dropping to 1996MHz)

+450 Memory Clock (resulting in a total of just under 6000MHz)

At +65 core clock, Fire Strike crashes during the demo. At +500 on the memory, I get small flashes of green and purple squares during Fire Strike, as well as some artefacting in Heaven.

I know it is impossible to guarantee a specific overclock, and that some people simply are unlucky in the silicon lottery, but I can't help but wonder if there is something wrong with the card I got...

Any advice/help/suggestions/ideas/comments would be appreciated.

System specs:

Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard

Intel Core i7 5820K @4000MHz

16GB (2x8) G.Skill DDR4 RAM

SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 1000W

Have you tried dropping the memory clock and only overclocking the core?  Also might as well take the power limit and put it as high as it'll go, then once you find where it's stable drop the power down - assuming the cooling is pretty good.

Actually, 2 ghz isn't that bad for a 1080 ti.

The more shader unity there are, the lower your max OC will be.

GTX 1060 for example can hit 2.1 Ghz often pretty easy.

+65 only sounds "low" because it already has a high factory OC.

Just check some tests of the 1080 ti Founders. What the Boost clock is under Load. It throttles, and it hits like 1650 Mhz~

But tbh: Did you buy the Card for only OC Numbers on paper? Or because you want to enjoy games?

I promise you, you will NOT feel any difference at all, if your 1080 ti runs at 2000 Mhz or 2050 Mhz. The differences are just so low.

I personally would even go down to 1900 Mhz, and instead drop the Voltage to like 0.9 Volt~ and have a great Performance per Watt. ^^

Brother i completely feel you man.. These days its all about numbers instead of gaming its all about getting that 5Ghz or 2Ghz gpu winning lottery etc all that bullshit getting that extra 10fps 5 fps people startup a game just to watch msi afterburner on the monitor..... people all care about high fps shit etc.. i also have a r7 2700x and a gtx 1080Ti i just want to play ultra and 2k. i just leave everything normal i even undervolted my processor to 4.1ghz at 1.26V and left my gpu at stock..... these days people only care about how much power it system has and then complains about components dying to quickly.... just leave everything at stock or undervolt for better performance per watt and just leave everything stock and if you cant brake yourself just go console gaming because this hype getting most juice out of your system is getting too worse and expensive... simple gaming has turned into thousand dollar race.....

Max voltage and max cooling. Best not to chase anything for a 1080ti. Not very good chips.
