Best Media Player

Hi all. I am looking for an upgrade. On my desktop i use VLC media player to play my 50+ gbs of MP3 music files. Its good enough but im looking for something with a little more polish(visually) and functionality. Id like playlists, favorites, etc like you would get on a phone's media player.

I use iTunes. Gives you great meta data (album art, lyrics, file names, descriptions, sorting options, and etc.) control and has the best UI compared to the programs above^ 

 

Its flexible and has real infrastructure behind it (iTunes Store). It also syncs with my iOS devices and keeps their libraries in whatever state I want them to be in. 

 

Its downsides are that on Windows it can be a little sluggish. But it doesn't DRM, and lets you link files from anywhere if you set it up right and its pretty. 

 

Oh and also if you have a lot of CDs iTunes will use the CD and iTunes Store to give you current album art, track names, and the works if they aren't already associated with the CD when you import.

It's free and worth a shot. If you need to sync to Android, Binary Fortress has iTunesFusion to do so.

I got really lazy when I wiped my PC and started using Groove since it was there. I didn't hate it. Might want to take a look.

Edit: This assumes you have Windows 10.

Not discounting iTunes it's fine (though they nuked all of my MP3s w/ DRM'd music and I had to fight to get it back when iTunes match fist came out). Just telling him to take a look since it is already there.

iTunes doesn't really even use MP3s anymore. When you buy songs they are all mostly M4A or AAC. 

 

But yeah they stopped the DRM which was really nice ?

I did really like Beats 1 radio. Esp. when Disclosure hosted. That still a thing?

The only issue I have with iTunes is that it runs like an absolute pig (at least on Windows it does). It takes a while for it to sort itself out when you open it and it's extremely unresponsive during that time. Not ideal for something you might be opening and closing a lot, especially if you open a lot of files directly from Explorer. 

 

Is for that very reason why I continue to stick with Media Player and Groove for my music. Not to mention iTunes still doesn't support flac playback...

I just have iTunes load with the OS along with 20 other programs. Also, I don't really see the big deal with FLAC.

ALAC is supported and that's basically FLAC and can be easily converted.

Windows Media Player does everything you asked for, is free and already installed OOB. Why complicate things any further?

 

For video files you get the K Lite Standard pack and use WMP-HC (it comes included), there's literally no video file type I've ever encountered it cannot play.

thank you very much. i had no idea it had that kind of functionality. i have used VLC all my life and up until recently never needed more.
