I currently have a barrow pump and it sounds horrible. second replacement looking to keep the same Top and res combo i have but switch out the pump its self for say a alpha cool vpp655?

they both look identical but without having both in front i just cant afford the $$ to get a alphacool d5 and not be able to use it!

https://www.alphacool.com/shop/pumps/alphacool-pumps/10620/alphacool-vpp655-single-edition

barrow has 2 links. first is the full unit with top

http://www.barrowint.com/index.php/article/104.html

second is the pump itself

http://www.barrowint.com/index.php/article/82.html

Note. i currently own a PWM pump but its running full speed due to no pump header on MB

Yes they are a standard size and will be comaptible, for PWM control all motherboards have that capability on the CPU fan header.

This barrow unit is not a D5 pump however: http://www.barrowint.com/index.php/article/104.html

NVM, it appears to be a D5 but some lower power consumption variate.

if u need a pick of the TOP of the housing i can post it as if this all fails and this 3rd barrow pump grinds when though ive inspected it. cleaned them and never let air in the pump before i turn it on the first time to move water through the loop. im just going to go find some pump i can put in the system as the current res combo i got im very happy with u see.

Yeah that's not a real D5 pump it's some off brand variant, all the D5's that are rebrands from Liang have a stainless surround with a ceramic bearing once you take out the impeller.

so if this all fails im up for a new res and pump since its not a d5 so it wont be compatible with the top and res?

I think it should be compatible with a D5 top from looking at barrow's site but the pump itself isn't a genuine D5 it looks like something of their own design similar to the D5.

so i pluged the pump to a cpu fan header 02 as i have 2 of them and the first 1 is hard to reach without moving my pc and i was able to lower the pump speed for the like the first time ever. now its almost silent and not grinding its self to oblivion. still might save up for a named pump just for my own piece of mind tbh. thanks for the help mate :) saved me some $ upfront, now i can save up for a decent pump and res combo.

It would still be a bit of a worrying sign with that grinding type noise if it wasn't just bubbles going through it, I would keep a close eye on it just to be on the safe side.
