<SOLVED> task manager detecting wrong CPU / Only 2 Cores detected

Go to solution Solved by Herman Mcpootis,

did you try restarting the rig? happened to me before when i upgraded to a core 2 quad, worked fine after restarting.

<SOLVED> I restarted my computer 3 more times and Windows detected everything correctly despite the RAM apparently needing to be of a higher speed

i upgraded my dell optiplex 755 SFF from a core 2 duo E6550 to a Core 2 Quad Q9300 and Windows is only detecting 2 cores and task manager is showing my old CPU. Help?

specs

Dell Optiplex 755 SFF mobo, case and psu

C2Q Q9300

GT 640 OEM

2GB DDR2

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (upgraded from Windows 7)

after i did the cpu upgrade, no. i don't think this should be necessary as i upgraded my c2d e7500 to a c2q q9400 on another build and it worked fine

Its always good to reinstall windows especially something as big as that, I know Windows10 is alot better at stuff like this but its still recommended. You could also check if the cores are enabled in bios and on windows run msconfig

see if you can check the core count for the cpu in the bios, if it only says 2 cores then something's up with the motherboard or bios.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php/624504-Quad-Core-Only-Seeing-2-Cores this might help.

This is what I had to do when I went from am E6600 to a Q6600. msconfig, then go to the boot tab then the advanced options tab.

HT might be disabled in the BIOS

core 2 quads don't have hyperthreading.

I had the same problem after I upgraded the Core2 Duo E8500 in my HTPC to a Q9650. After some time using it, I got a bluescreen. It rebooted and got everything right. No bluescreen appeared after that.

Laptop: R5 2500U / Radeon Vega 8 / 8GB DDR4-2400 / 500GB SK Hynix BC501 (HP Envy x360 13)

My little Server: i7-7700 / Asrock H110M-ITX / 24GB DDR4-2400 / Samsung 860 Pro 250GB & Seagate Firecuda 2TB / VMware ESXi 6.7
