bpx 480 gig nvme ssd heat issues

so i got this ssd around a month ago since it seemed like such a good deal. i plugged it into an adapter and off i went. for a while i wasnt having troubles with it but recently i have been having it misteriously dc, it would show up in disk managment sometimes but crystal disk info wouldnt detect it and trying to read a file off of it would lock up the computer for a while before giving me an error.

i think this might be due to heat, it runs around 63 degrees at idle and spikes to 75+ degrees when under load. 

it could just also be a dead drive or adapter although the drive did pass a smart test.

I would check the adapter before anything else by using a different slot and, failing that, getting a new one.

ya that was kind of my plan of action. sigh.

Your motherboard doesn't have an M.2?

it does but the slot runs at sata speeds.

Are you sure? Z97 boards usually have M.2 with SATA and PCIe functionality. You may just have to switch the option in the BIOS.

very sure, spend like 4 hours trying to figure it out, it wont even detect when plugged into the m.2 slot.

either way i want the ssd not to be seen since it clashes violent with the white powder coat.
