For 144Hz, get a 7700K or wait for Coffeelake. And for 1440p 144Hz, you may want to get a 1080 Ti instead of the vanilla 1080.

That's not just the R5's problem. GPU is not powerful enough as well

Doesn't make a huge difference in games. If you are going to get a 144Hz monitor, the 7700K or the upcoming 8700K are better options.

Games dont go as far as using 8 cores at the moment, so 1700 and 1600 perform the same in games.

 

1440p 144Hz with your first build is possible at medium settings on demanding games btw

Someone recommended an evga GPU over your MSI gpu. Linus has recommended any aftermarket GPU cooler to be just fine. (As in non-blower style coolers.)

 

If you can run Ethernet, do it. It's more reliable, consistant and usually much faster than wi-fi. Not only that but it'll save you like 40 dollars. (Ethernet is built onto your motherboard.)

You don't NEED thermal paste as it comes on the cooler with non-x varient Ryzen CPUs. If you can upgrade to an i7 7700/7700k or higher number i7 by intel go with that. 

 

I don't know much about the company that makes your SSD so I cannot comment about it other than, if you can... Get a samsung evo as they have phenominal reputation. Or better see about an NVME ssd-if your board supports it. If it doesn't that'd be an upgrade I'd advise.

ohh i switched to the Evga now but can i run an amd ryzen 5 1600 or should i just go for the 1700 even tho it goes above my budget

and i do not really belive i must have a 1080 i could possibly downgrade to a 1070 but what effects would that have

1600 and 1700 perform the same in games unless you also do streaming at the same time.

You are not getting 144fps at 1440p unless you sacrifice graphics settings or play undemanding games like cs:go and rocket league even with a 1080. Downgrade to 1070 will just make it worse.
