Gtx 1080ti poor performance. Help.

Manny_NotTheStig

Hi guys.

I upgraded from a hybrid gtx 980ti to a hybrid gtx 1080ti in preparation for going from triple 1080P 60Hz monitors to triple 1080P 144Hz monitors.

I play racing sim titles, more specifically iracing. I dont really know whether it is cpu or gpu intensive.

Since installing the 1080ti, i havent had great performance. I have the frame rate capped at 120 in the game which shouldn't be a problem for the 1080ti. My frame rate however averages around 80, going from 60 to 110. The problem is that the card doesnt boost all the way up while I'm racing (boost up to about 1600 but i know it can do 1900, and its not thermals because its a hybrid card and my max temp so far was 45C) and I'm only seeing 40% max load in CAM and afterburner (more around 30%). I was wondering it was cpu bottleneck from my 4790K at 4.6GHz, but that also only shows about 50% load.

I have confirmed that i have power options on performance both in windows and in nvidia control panel. VSync is off.

What am i doing wrong? What else do i need to check or adjust? I mean there'd be no need to buy 144Hz monitors if my gpu is cant keep a constant 120Hz.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of iracing

from what I can see it appears to be online based.

whats the framerate when playing offline with no internet connection? it's important to never use online based games as fps benchmarks

Thanks for the replies

How do i find out my version of DDU and if i need an update?

iracing is an online only racing simulation (not an arcade game). I'm not trying to benchmark. I'm getting about the same performance of my 980ti when i should be getting almost twice that.

Google DDU and follow the instructions.  Then go to NVIDIAs website and get the newest 1080 ti drivers

check CPU usage.

is a single core maxed out? if so, CPU "bottleneck" (not really cuz it's already high enough FPS)

Thanks for the reply. As the picture shows above, no core is maxed out.

Yes the current frame rate is good enough and its what i been using, but i bought the 1080ti to do 144Hz.

Racing simulation, like first person shooter esports title benefit from faster refresh rate, hence my upgrade.

I used DDU to uninstall in safe mode and then reinstall the drivers. Now the gpu is actually boosting to 2050 (+100 offset) almost all the time, but i still only have 40% utilization with slightly better minimum frames (now in th 80s).

Specs - 4790K @ 4.6GGHz, MSI Z97-G45, MSI 1080TI HYBRID, 850 EVO 500GB, H100iV2, HX1050,

Could it be a psu issue? I've had this psu since 2013 and i got it used.

What game, cause a 1080 ti with a triple monitor set up on Ghost Recon with max settings isn't going to get you 120FPS. Also your core clock seems low, not sure if you ran this while running a benchmark or not. GPU Boost should atleast get you 1900MHz

did you do what others have said and uninstall the display driver and reinstall? If that doesn't fix it I'd send it back for another card cause something isn't right if your playing esport titles and driving sims.
