So, as the title suggests, my water pump suddenly gave up the ghost in spectacular form! PC was just idling in the background then suddenly what sounds like the impeller inside exploded & started eating itself Safe to say, the pc has been turned off immediately.

Question now is, do I get a new pump or switch over to air? I used to heavily be into pc modding & water-cooling but my passion now lays with cars & modding those instead. I still love my pc, but I can't justify spending big money on it if it's not gonna get shown off. I'm heavily considering air cooling the cpu, but not sure which cooler I should go for. What do people recommend? The fans I have available to use are 3x sp120's and 2x NF-A140's.

What cooler I recommend depends on the clearances. What Case are you running?

Fan Comparisons          F@H          PCPartPicker         Analysis of Market Trends (Coming soon? Never? Who knows!)

Designing a mITX case. Working on aluminum prototypes.

Open for intern / part-time. Good at maths, CAD and airflow stuff. Dabbled with Python.

please remove formatting when pasting or don't change color of text from automatic as your post becomes hard to read for night theme users, and many will probably just ignore the post entirely because of it.

I've no idea what you're talking about? I've not changed the colour of any text. All I did was copy & paste my text from another forum (while in the text editor there too) to this one to save typing it out twice. My thread looks normal to me, I'm really confused by what you're talking about...?

Is there any particular cooler/brand of cooler you'd suggest I go for?

If you have rather a high budget then something such as the Noctua NH-D15s is one of the best performing CPU coolers on the market, as with still giving absolutely insane amounts of thermal headroom for overclocking, and should you overclock or not I guarantee it will probably be rather quiet so you probably won't need to make use of your spare fans on it as the included ones are mucho spicy.

Something like maybe even like a Cooler Master MasterAir Pro 4 is pretty good balance to performance ratio, but you'd probably want to use one of your SP120s as the included fan mightn't be to great.

when you paste text from other sites, it's often formatted, when you paste you get the option at the bottom of the text input window to remove formatting from the text, otherwise it will retain the black font color

Currently running a Phanteks Enthoo Primo but I also have an Aquila Xigmatek up in storage, but my main case is the Primo.

The CPU Coolerclearance is 207mm...

I'd go with the Noctua NH-D15 for top line performance cooling

Here's a link to Noctua's TDP ratings for their coolers.

The other forum has a set text color instead of LTTForumn's "adaptive" one.

If you click the pencil underneath the post to edit, a black bar should show up for a couple seconds that says " You have pasted content with formatting. Remove formatting"

If the bar doesn't show up, you may be able to click the linked "Remove Formatting" that is linked in the quote above. That may work.

no bar comes up when I go to edit & the supposed link you provided isn't a link, or at least not for me...

it appears when you paste text with formatting.. try copying some text and paste it in a reply box, it should pop up underneath

You didn't say much about your rig so i don't know the RAM clearance and if it is a small case so if the CPU is ODed, a nice cool Cryorig H7 if not the H5.

It was an EK D5 with an XSPC top. I never really did finish the build tbh, money got tight & I lost interest tbh. Like I said in the original post, I've moved onto cars now but I still love my pc & will update it when things break such as now :)

Then you should be fine with the clearance so either the H5/H7 should work. What about the CPU, is it OCed(overclocked), because the H7 would be better for the extra temperature because of the OC.

Either got the i5 6600k or the i5 6500, I forget but I think it's the 6600k. Not OC'd but one day I may delve into that area.

If you have the non-k CPU then the H5 would be fine but if you have the K CPU and plan to OC as you said, then get a new pump as you already have everything else like the radiators and CPU block, they can be cleaned and reused. The cooler you keep he CPU the better the OC.
