Hello everybody -

I am going to be building a PC soon -  I already have most of the components together inside of a Dell Dimension 4400.

Anyway, I am using an i7-7700k along with a Z270 motherboard w/ PCI-E X16.

I am going to be using a 144hz monitor. Anyway, I am wondering if I should use a 1070 or a 1080. Obviously, I'd like to utilize the 144hz-ness.

I plan on playing games like CS, most triple-A titles, preferably on ultra settings. Will I need the 1080 to do so?

The 1070 should run most games on ultra quite well but for games such as The Witcher 3, I would recommend the 1080 since it's a really demanding game even for the 1070 to manage. Since you have the 144hz monitor i would recommend you go with the 1080 since you wouldn't really have to worry about whether the 1070 is enough, having to change settings, etc. I mostly look at 1060 VS 1070 performance so I'm not so sure but this is what I think. Good Luck

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that. The 1070 plays games at 1440p resolution pretty well but I guess that the few reasons of getting a 1080 would be for the heavier games such as The Witcher as I had mentioned.

if you want to go for gta v for example, definitely get a 1080 or higher. my 1070 can handle the graphics at max (only i set msaa x2) and will get a stable 60 fps, but in regions where there are a lot of trees or bushes, it can drop to 50 fps. so if you want 144hz in gta, get a 1080 or higher

Yeah, the 1070 is a beast of a card at 1080p or 1440p, but 144Hz is a bit too much for it, thus why the 1080 is a better choice. Though you can always lower settings, and often there's little difference even between medium and ultra, since the game is moving and most people don't focus on and scrutinize every one of the 144 frames per second flashing by, unless they're the Flash or Quicksilver and can actually see stuff at that speed.

I think a 1080 is basically guaranteed 144Hz in most games at 1440p, the 1070 is a maybe if you lower some settings (or a yes if you lower a lot).

1070 is enough for anything but the very most demanding games.

Hi.
