Legacy vs UEFI

Considering my 1080 and my 970 work on my EVGA 790i (lga775) I'd say anyone telling you a modern UEFI-based graphics card wont work with legacy BIOS is in need of some enlightenment.

 

The only time I have ever seen an issue was with specific AMD cards not working with PCI-E 1.0/1.1 slots, and that was quite a while ago.

The motherboard I have has these specs https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M5A78LM_LX_PLUS/specifications/ but I don't know if it has uefi and can support new graphics cards. And no I won't upgrade to a better motherboard/cpu, I'd just like to know if I'll have to opt for legacy capable graphics cards.

I'm thinking no. It doesn't mention UEFI anywhere particularly under the BIOS description and when looking into updating the BIOS apparently ASUS doesn't even officially support Windows 10 for this motherboard. So I think not.

What's UEFI got to do with GPUs? I would imagine that's only relevant for passing through GPU to client OS like from ESXI.

GPUs should work as long as you have the relevant PCI-e slot avaiable and that it is a certain version or higher. People have been using GPUs a lot longer than UEFI has been relevant on mobos.

 

Am I missing something here?

^ That is the relevant info, it has PCI-e 2.0 slot x16 speed, your GPU should run fine.

UEFI/BIOS and GPUs are independent as far as I know. That setting has to do with the motherboard, boot up protocols, and the OS/drive, not the GPU.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

A GTX 960 and 97o work, so you're good. Generally the 600 series is the last to work in the  motherboards of that vintage that have the same issue.
