Wont post with XMP 4266mhz enabled

hi ppl, ive just got a brand new i7 7800x, Corsair h115i, MSI m7 ack, 16gb trident z rgb 4266 and installed them with my 5 years old Corsair CS750M and R9 280x Toxic.

 

First things first, a noob overclocker speaking, im having trouble to set my xmp to 4266mhz (bought it aiming that).

 

Upon bios the M7 ACK give me a XMP button to make things easy, but what happens is the system failing to boot and back to the "failed overclock - change bios settings" screen.

 

ps. I'm able to boot at xmp 3466mhz, anything above that gives the boot failure, it seems to me that I'm missing some adjustment in the CPU base clock (don't really get any of that).

I have a similar problem with my RAM in that if I enable XMP and set it to the speed it was advertised, I get the same error on boot. The only way I could get it anywhere close to the clock speeds was by adjusting BCLK. But I'm weary of doing that.

 

So I went around to have a look at what else could go wrong with XMP stuff and so far the only thing I could grab was:

• Timings aren't good for your particular configuration
• Voltage is too low
• May need to adjust BCLK

I might play around with my setup some more to see if I can figure out why I can't use my RAM at its advertised speed and if I do get it work, share what I did.

What exact ram kit do you have?  What slots are they in on the motherboard?  4266MHz is really getting up there.

Officially , Intel only supports 2666mhz on skylake X . Above that ,it depends on your board and luck ( Your IMC ) .

It's possible your cpu just can't cope with those speeds . Over 4ghz is really pushing it , and it's not officially supported by intel.

You aren't going to get 4266mhz with that CPU. Best option is to run at 4000 with tighter timings. 

 

When I had my 7800X it wouldn't run at 4266, max I could hit was 4133 or something but that still wasn't stable.

 

You are going to have to dial it in manually, no XMP.

they are currently at slots C1 D1, but Ive tried on B1 A1, but got same results.

 

ps.: the M7 ACK has two CPU_PWR connectors one 8 pins and a separate 4 pins, but my CS750M only has one 4+4 pins connector, I was thinking, could it be that this separate 4 pins CPU_PWR, which is not getting energy, is the culprit.

A1 and C1 is what you want.  Give that a try.  It still may not work, but those are the correct DIMM slots.

tried but no success, instead it gave a weird notification upon bios (see image).

The manual says A1 ans C1.  You are sure that is where they were?

That may or may not be interfering with your ability to run the highest XMP, but it's definitely going to be an issue sooner or later. You want that CPU properly fed, especially if overclocking (and OCing RAM also stresses the IMC in the CPU).
