So, my new school has banned a few game websites & steam.

As I didnt want to be restricted from accessing steam, I tried to connect to my home VPN I have though my router. It didn't connect.

Allright, maybe I configured it wrongly after all. I opened CyberGhost and tried to connect, and it failed. After that, I was fairly certain the school blocked VPNs, but I had an idea to get access to steam anyways.

I went home and reconfigured my router vpn. This time I used port 443 (incase school used port block) and enabled AES-256 encryption. No success. Later tried ExpressVPN, it worked as expected. Since ExpressVPN is used to bypass the Chinese firewall, I guess they somehow hid the VPN traffic. Now my subscription soon runs out, and I'm wondering how I might set up a VPN Server at home that bypass the blocks.

To do so I have a Windows 7 Laptop available if it isn't possible to do it through the router.

My router settings (RT-AC66U with Merlin): 5Y5AvA2.png

(and before anyone tells me not to break school rules, etc, the school has no rules against bypassing block)

its your school's network, if they decide you dont get this stuff, you dont get this stuff.

if you insist, turn it into a learning experience, i guarantee you they left holes in their security.
