Posted August 22, 2017 My family has this problem where when I decide to play games, they experience lag and slow connection. Even I experience problems while I'm using my phone at the computer. Is there a way to fix this? Is it because I'm using Ethernet? Is it because my plan or Charter sucks? Sorry if this is a simple problem, not very experienced with internet and all that On the side note, what does killer Ethernet do?
 Posted August 22, 2017 Yes its because you don't have enough bandwidth to support all your devices. Killer Ethernet is just a brand of controller targeted at gamers. Generally Ethernet is all the same unless you are getting into enterprise solutions. Don't be swayed by things like "10GB ethernet!" "dual Ethernet ports!" "Killer or Gaming Ethernet!" Its all blab and marketing that has no real use unless you are doing something other then gaming and/or know a good amount about networking. Use this guide to fix text problems in your post. Posted August 22, 2017 There are a few things that could be occuring, i'll list them in order of likelihood you don't have enough bandwidth to support a lot of stuff at once, so when you're gaming, there just isn't enough left to service everyone else your router cannot handle many users' concurrent requests, so it becomes slow with many users at once you have QoS (Quality of Service) enabled on your router for your PC, so its traffic gets prioritized over others. This is unlikely since that's something that would have to be consciously done, normally. That being said, some routers will normally prioritize wired (ethernet) traffic anyways, so that could be related. Your family is trying to access the same ports as you (ports are kinda like lanes on a road) when you game, so you have to wait or each other's traffic to clear before the next user can do so. but this is VERY unlikely. As for the question about killer ethernet, they are simply a company that makes ethernet jacks/drivers. Intel is another company that does. Killer often markets to gamers by claiming that they will prioritize packets from your PC that are gaming-related over others from background processes, etc. Most ppl agree it doesn't really help, and some claim worse performance than Intel NICs and such. I wouldn't really pay much attention to it. It COULD also be that they are eating up your 5MB upload and having the download not hit as hard. I'd say go into the settings and set up a bandwidth cap for each Ethernet port and WiFi connection. Since it is a relatively high end device it should be possible. Also you should be able to get it to prioritize Ethernet connections over wireless. Use this guide to fix text problems in your post.
