A 1080ti would be better currently, but why upgrade now? I would wait for Volta if you could, a 1070 is still pretty powerful.

At 60Hz I wouldn't bother upgrading. A 1070 is more than enough at that resolution.

If you were doing 1440p at 144Hz then I would say consider the 1080Ti

But OP would have to upgrade his CPU because a 6600K cannot keep up with cards faster than a 1070. It also affects gameplay smoothness due to big frametime variations and FPS drops.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

Definitely agree, anything faster would be bottlenecked by the 6600K

I feel like either option is going to run into some bottlenecking on a 6600k.

If you meant 'i don't think it will live that long' as in the 1070 then don't worry about it, graphics card can last for many years I would recommend waiting for Volta.

If you've got a terminal illness and some cash to splash go for the 1080ti treat yourself, why not.

Processor: i7 7700k@Stock GPU: GTX 1080 MSI Armor OC  Mobo: Asus Prime Z270-A RAM: Corsair LPX 16GB 3200 MHz CPU Cooler: be quiet! At 1440p 60hz? It can easily play almost any game max/ultra, it shouldnt have any problems with that.

1070 should be fine, My suggestion is just keep the 1070 and save your money just wait till the new line of gpu's come out.
