Hey Guys,

So I've built pcs before, helped a mate build his and a workstation pc for family. However, I've been saving funds for a good gaming rig.

I want to be able to get close to 60fps on ultra settings across the board as well as have solid high frame rates on fps shooters like siege and overwatch. I've collected about $3000 AUD for the build and have come up with the following build. The build is also heavily based around the red and black colour scheme and I am currently very happy with the build, both in quality and aesthetics.

If you guys have any improvements that you can think of it would be much appreciated. :D

Coffee Lake is near, so [profanity] Kaby Lake

Other than CPU and mobo, till things to improve

You don't need NVMe SSDs. Why bother with one when SATA SSDs can still get the job done just as well? We haven't used up SATA's 600MBps bandwidth yet. NCIX tech tips has a video showing that NVMe SSD and SATA SSDs load games, compress/decompress files just as fast as the other.

650W PSU is enough for a single 1080 setup.

don't pair a 7700k with a h270 motherboard, and wait for kopi lake.

H80i is very mediocre for the price, get an air cooler instead.

a standard non-nvme ssd will do for a gaming rig, no need to spend extra.

Oh god no, do NOT get an H270 motherboard with an unlocked CPU. Don't get a 120/140mm AIO, they're trash. If you MUST get an AIO, get at least a 240mm rad. 960 PRO is super overpriced and bad fit for a gaming system. Get a 500GB 850 EVO for like half the price.

7700k and Z270 mobo as a placeholder for 8700k and Z370 mobo. Better peripherals. Swap the air cooler for a 240mm+ AIO CLC if you wish.

Next week Intel will launch its latest desktop cpu, code named Coffee Lake. I would suggest waiting to see how those cpu pan out.

With respect to the OP build, consider a motherboard like Asus - STRIX Z270-E GAMING. It can overclock the unlocked i7-7700K. Something the H270 motherboard cannot do. It has RGB lighting so the red/black theme is easily maintained. It has onboard WiFi, so there is no need for an addon card.

An NVMe M.2 drive is not going to contribute anything noticeable in gaming. A 2.5" SATA III ssd like Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 500GB will provide excellent performance.

An 850W psu is overkill. Corsair - RMx 650W would be a decent choice.

If you use an Asus motherboard that supports Aura Sync, you could pick compatible RGB memory like G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000. The advantage of using RGB components is that if one tires of a particular color theme, it is easily switched.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
