Just built my new computer

EVGA 1070 SC

i7-7700k

msi z270 carbon

1tb 850 evo

Dell S2417DG

The issue I am running into is that it is capping at 60 or 30 fps in games. I turned off vsync, enabled gsync. I ran firestrike and openGL (cinebench) and was getting much higher framerates than that but in games it seems to cap. The games I am running are Spore, which caps at 30. And Sonic Generations which caps at 60. For both of these games I changed the settings to 2560x1440 at 144hz. Am I missing something? Do older titles not running at higher framerates? As always any help is appreciated.

Sonic Generations is capped at 60fps and I wouldn't be surprised if Spore has a cap on fps too.

I think you just unluckily chose two games with a built in cap, so don't think you have anything to worry about :P

those are caps those specific games impose on you, a common thing for a console port such as Sonic Generations and Spore. There is a way to play spore at 60fps, but can cause game issues because the engine is frame rate dependent

The thing is that Spore had an option to go 2560x1440 at 144hz which I attempted but still was at 30 fps don't but you're probably right.
